The Alberta Energy Regulator throws back to the earliest days of field inspection

From the moment of the ERCB’s launch in 1938, inspectors checked well metres and gauges to make sure industry production complied with the ERCB’s rules against wasteful practices. In no time at all, this custom was entrenched in the regulator’s practice and continues today.
The ERCB has since become the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), and inspections have only become more rigorous. Every year, close to 85 AER field inspectors make visits to thousands of Alberta’s operating wells, production and processing facilities, and pipelines. These visits ensure that companies are following our requirements at every turn and are working safely.
