AER releases public statement in response to ICORE investigation reports

Alberta - October 04, 2019

The Alberta Energy Regulator’s (AER’s) interim board of directors has responded to investigation reports into the AER’s involvement with the International Centre of Regulatory Excellence (ICORE). The reports by the Alberta’s Public Interest Commissioner, Ethics Commissioner, and Office of the Auditor General were released this morning.

In a statement, the board said: “While ICORE was originally established to provide training to AER employees and support information sharing across jurisdictions, it is clear now that a small group of senior leaders used AER resources in a way that is unacceptable. These individuals are no longer employed at the AER.”

The board called the reports’ findings “disappointing,” adding that work is already under way to improve the AER’s governance, policies, controls, and culture, and that these efforts will benefit from the recommendations contained in the reports.
